First of all ‘For Dummies’ catchy name but doesn’t mean you have to be dumb to buy and read this book. It only means you need some help from an ‘expert’. And if you were already an expert you wouldn’t be looking at this book.

On to Windows 10 for Seniors [for dummies]. This book is excellent if you want the basics out of your computer. Email, Skype to see the grand kids, viewing pictures, game playing, surfing and maybe a little chatting or some social media like Facebook or Twitter and the basic set up of your desk top. It has some general personalization of windows, tells you how to use an email app. All great and informative stuff. Written in easily to follow instructions and great graphics. Very comprehensive table of contents, a go to book to keep on your desk for easy reference.

I would certainly recommend this for the senior or anyone who hasn’t grown up with computers and needs help and a little catch up. Price is excellent and as always prompt shipping with amazon.com.

Get your computer set up and ready to go.

An abbreviated version of the Windows 10 for dummies especially formatted for seniors with not much computer knowledge. It gives you the set up information you need to get going. It did not have the more in depth information that I needed to solve some of the problems I wanted to solve after it was set up. It was a help but I had already solved most of it on my own.

I would have preferred a more direct approach as in an index first in the book. So that I could look at the problem that was first on MY list. Reading through the introductory chapters took too long to find out that this data was already in my data base. I still haven't finished the book.

It had everything in it!

When AP exams finally come along, many students realize (like myself and my friends), that we crammed the material before each class exam but never really committed it to memory. So, to save ourselves from getting lousy scores, we turn to prep books. Barron's has served me well in the past, so my friends and I all bought copies of this before the AP...and it was a lifesaver.

Spending about four hours a day the week before the exam with this book worked wonders! It explained every statistical concept that we'd learned previously in a very clear, cogent manner (in fact, I really felt like I'd learned something after I read this). And, in true Barron's fashion, it left nothing untouched. From regression equations to chi-square tests, this book covers it all. And not only do you get a review of the material, you really get a comprehensive treatment of the material but in a less "frilly" and frivolous manner, so you don't have to wade through hundreds of lines of silly talk as is seen in so many textbooks.

So, after reading this book and doing ALL of the exercises (they're harder than the real thing, so if you practice with these, you'll be set), I was well prepared for the AP statistics exam. When I took it, there wasn't a thing on there that I didn't know how to do, and it's largely thanks to this book!

If you're looking to learn AP stats independently or are looking to brush up on course material before exams, then don't waste your time with any other stats book...read this one, and get that 5!

I only used the practice tests in this book

I took the AP Statistics test almost two years ago but I still remember how this book helped me prep for it because I found it so helpful. Before, all the equations were jumbled up in my head but after going through practice test after practice test from this book, I felt more and more confident. When I took the test, I breezed through it and ended up with a 5. The reason I didn't give 5 stars to this book is that the practice tests weren't exactly like the actual test. But that's not a big deal because the practice tests were good preparation anyway, and I don't think any other book has more accurate tests. After all, the AP Statistics test has only been around a few years. My teacher is the one who gave us the practice tests from this book and he is a grader of the AP test so he's someone you can trust.

Who needs a professor?

As a busy professional going back to school to earn that overpriced piece of paper we call a B.S., I had no time to BS with the "generals" we all learned (if we were paying attention) in Jr. High.

To eliminate the Math requirement, I picked up this book, as well as "The Best Review for the CLEP General Exams". I spent two evenings-about an hour per night-reviewing Algebra and Geometry. Then I spent another two nights-an hour a piece-with this book studying Statistics.

Of course I didn't read the entire book in two hours, but I had studied enough to pass the math requirement and saved myself 6-12 months of agony and several thousand dollars.

I highly recommend this book for anyone (like me) who wasn't listening much in 8th, 9th, 10, 11th or 12th grade math. To those who ARE taking their 8th grade classes seriously: Don't study too hard, or you'll have nothing new to learn at University. ;)

Ira Kalet is Professor Emeritus of Radiation Oncology, and of Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education, at the University of Washington. From 2005 to 2010 he served as IT Security Director for the University of Washington School of Medicine and its major teaching hospitals. He has been a member of the American Medical Informatics Association since 1990, and an elected Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics since 2011. His research interests include simulation systems for design of radiation treatment for cancer, software development methodology, and artificial intelligence applications to medicine, particularly expert systems, ontologies and modeling.
