Great High School Offense

This is where it all began. The offense is exciting and the book is an entertaining read. Today the Mouse Davis version of this offense gets all of the attention but this original Tiger Ellison offense is perfect for any High School team. An exciting balance between running and passing with lots of dynamic possibilities for the play to change based on the defense. It is as pertinent today as it was many years ago.

Just An Awesome Read

Very little coach speak here. This is a book that anyone interested in football can read, enjoy and understand. Lots od diagrams that illustrate the evolution of Tiger's thinking. There are elements of the Run And Shoot in every NFL offense today, and most college offenses as well. You will not be disappointed with this book regardless of how sophisticated a football person you might be.I feel fortunate to have found this.

They weren't better athletes, but back in those days

Read this book in the late 60's. Originally written in the late 50's, we played a school that ran this when I was in high school 68-71. They weren't better athletes, but back in those days, defenses couldn't stop it. We got wiped out by them every year. I watched as Irk Russell developed this at GA Southern. The Mouse Davis version used in the USFL was more a shallow roll than a true run & shoot. When I coached high school ball in 1994, we used the Polecat and it scored the first three times we ran it. Must read for any coach!

I really enjoyed all of the books.They each are very emotioal in different ways.The only this I did not like was that there were numerous grammar and spelling mistakes.I would definetly recomend all of these books to anyone OVER 13 though.

I have not read all of them yet. They are really amazing books so far. However when my child asked me months ago to get the beginning of the books for her and reading the descriptions I thought okay not bad. I decided to read it just a few days ago. Felt how I let my child age 10 read this I must be a stupid parent. Although this topic is not secret in my house. More details would be great for parent that the book contains language and is in sexual nature. Book 3 gave me detail and told her no. Rating the book is 5 description is 1

Silence was an amazing book but the editors need to shake their heads. So many spelling and grammer issues in the first book. If it wasn't for the spelling and grammer i would havd given the book a 5 star rating! Loved the first book so much im just about the buy the second book! I cried a few times in this book and couldn't put it down!!

Can you improve yer motorcycle riding skills by reading a book? No doubt about it. Keith Code is founder and director of California Superbike Cornering Schools and has published a number of books on the subject of racing motorcycles on speed tracks. Although most of this book's focus is on handling race bikes, only the last two of its sixteen chapters are exclusively dedicated to racing. The book concentrates mostly on better controlling your speed while maneuvering your bike over varying racetrack conditions. As you'd expect, there is a major emphasis on turning: getting through the turn with increased mph and decreased time spent in [the turn] and [maintaining] adequate control of the bike. Code's overall approach to improving riding skills is to define the basics, and then to investigate the decisions you must make to ride well. He uses a great analogy: Each person has a fixed amount of attention while riding a motorcycle. This is represented as a $10 bill worth of attention. If you spend five dollars of it on one aspect of riding, you have only five dollars left for all the other aspects. Spend nine and you have only one dollar left, and so on. The aspects of riding he talks about are things like: Road characteristics: Constant-, increasing-, and. decreasing-radius turns, crested turns, series turns, positive- and negative-camber turns, and road surfaces. What you do: Riding is one thing; riding plus being aware of what you are doing is quite another. Making an effort to look at what you are doing while you are doing it. Your own evaluation of what you just did and what just happened: Things that can be thought over and changed if necessary. I like his teaching strategy. After isolating several specific principles, concepts, and techniques, each subsequent chapter effectively builds on what was previously presented to the point that if you didn't understand the concept and haven't yet experienced it, you'll want to get back on the road and try it out, read the book some more, then evaluate what you understand. His explanation of Reference Points is invaluable, even if you are a car enthusiast. At speed, location is a moment in time. You have to use the correct control and the correct place. He explains counter steering (push right to go right) in straight forward and easy to understand detail. For the adventurous he explains sliding, hanging off and (you may need this) falling off. He explains counter steering (push right to go right) in straight forward and easy to understand detail. For the adventurous he explains sliding, hanging off and (you may need this) falling off. It seems like some reviewers have missed the point. It's the simple, fundamental things that a lot of seasoned riders get wrong. I know-I was one. Andy Ibbott is an experienced journalist and former road test editor of Motor Cycle News. He was the first British coach employed in the UK by the California Superbike School, which now operates motorcycling courses at Silverstone, Rockingham and Cadwell Park. Outstanding collection of brilliant minds

Outstanding collection of the thoughts and feelings of some of the greatest minds of the time. Hubbard's Scrap Book has done all the "hard" work of finding them and putting them in one place. I have sent copies to my children and friends to help inspire them, ease their minds, relax their souls and provide them a glimpse into what the greatest thinkers in history thought about the issues of mankind, which are timeless.

Wealth of Wisdom

This book I can't recommend enough. I've read every quote and excerpt in it (except poems) and I circled those that I found most profound. I'm yet to find the true significance of many of them. Sometimes I think that when I have to express my everyday opinion about something I could just use any of the quotes from that book and cite it instead of talking to people. I dunno know what else to say...maybe I should use one of the quotes: "The less people speak of their greatness the more we think of it." - Bacon.

Pretty Good

While I didn't enjoy this book as much as some of the other Torey Hayden books I've read, I did like this book.
The troubled children in this book were lovable and as always, Torey worked miracles with them. I really felt her love for them. My favorite of the children was the autistic Boo.
Read this book - you won't regret it.

Torey Hayden, author of "One Child," charts a year in the life of a special education classroom with some unusual and unforgettable students. They include Claudia, an academically gifted, pregnant twelve-year-old; Tomaso, who witnessed the death of his father; Lori, a girl whose abuse left her unable to read and write; and Boo, an autistic boy with a fondness for giving weather reports. How they bond, become a class, and deal with the largely unsympathetic outside world makes for a remarkable story. Even more gratifying is the epilogue, in which we learn that all four made gains after they graduated from Hayden's class, all quite remarkably.

A straightforward account of four unusual children and their extraordinary teacher

Special ed teacher Torey Hayden tells the story of a year within her classroom, when she struggled to help four students -- 12-year-old Claudia, a shy, bright parochial school student who is pregnant; Tomaso, a Mexican 10-year-old who became wild and unreachable after his stepmother murdered his father; seven-year-old Lori, unable to learn after physical abuse at the hands of her biological parents resulted in brain damage; and Boo, also seven, and severely autistic.

Most days, Heyden admits, she was full of frustration, as these four kids aren't exactly easy to work with. In addition, having the four -- with widely different needs -- *together* was also a challenge. But still, something within her refused to give up. Although many others before her had dismissed each of the children as lost, Heyden wanted to believe that wasn't true.

Although it crosses into the realm of potential sap, preachiness or self-admiration, the book never goes there. While Heyden's quest to help the children -- and resulting success with them -- puts her well ahead of others, she never takes on the air of patting herself on the back for it. Rather, she is a mere human; one who often becomes frustrated, as anyone else might be; and far from perfect. Often, as she becomes fixated on the children, Heyden forgets to balance the other areas of her life, which become problematic as a result.

This is a fascinating look at a year in the lives of four different special needs children, and what one caring individual does to try to help them.

About the Author

Amalendu Chakraverty, a former professor at the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur, was engaged in teaching and research in postharvest technology and food engineering for nearly 30 years. He had the opportunity to be associated with the rice/grain, fruit, and vegetable processing industries for a long period and visited various rice milling/processing machinery manufacturing industries in Japan and India. Dr. Chakraverty has completed a number of national research projects and published about 100 papers on grain drying, parboiling, and milling and their by-products in reputed national and international research journals and proceedings. He has also contributed chapters in books and has authored several books on various aspects of postharvest technology and biomass utilization technologies.
